چکیده
Introduction Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA – also known as thioctic acid) was discovered in 1951 as a molecule that assists in acyl-group transfer and as a coenzyme in the Krebs cycle. In the 1980s, the scientific community realized alpha-lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant. Several qualities distinguish alpha-lipoic acid from other antioxidants: ALA can be synthesized by animals and humans;1 it neutralizes free radicals in both the fatty and watery regions of cells, in contrast to vitamin C (water soluble) and vitamin E (fat soluble); and, ALA functions as an antioxidant in both its reduced and oxidized forms.2

Comparison of the Effect of Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) and Beta-Defensin 1 Protein on Human Sperm Motility and Viability in Different Times of Incubation
Background and Objectives: Antioxidant alpha lipoic acid and β-defensin 1 protein may have a positive effect on the quality of sperm parameters. In this study, the effect of sperm incubation with alpha lipoic acid antioxidant and β-defensin 1 protein were assessed on sperm motility and viability at different times. Methods: In this experimental study, routine semen analysis was carried out o...
متن کاملThe Effect of Alpha-Lipoic Acid on Learning and Memory Deficit in a Rat Model of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy
Introduction: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder in which patients experience spontaneous recurrent seizures and deficiency in learning and memory. Although the most commonly recommended therapy is drug treatment, some patients do not achieve adequate control of their seizures on existing drugs. New medications with novel mechanisms of action are needed to help those patients whose sei...
متن کاملAlpha-lipoic acid loaded in chitosan conduit enhances sciatic nerve regeneration in rat
Objective(s): To investigate the effect of topical administration of alpha-lipoic acid into chitosan conduit on peripheral nerve regeneration using a rat sciatic nerve transection model. Materials and Methods: Forty five Wistar rats were divided into three experimental groups randomly. A 10-mm gap of sciatic nerve was bridged with a chitosan conduit following surgical preparation and anesthesia...
